It was her attendance to the High School of Graphics Communication Arts in Manhattan that led Jenae Alyce, the Beauty Guru of the Month for July 2016, to actually find her passion. “I’ve seen different people with different styles and my major in school was photography so we used computers pretty much all the time. So, I would browse for ideas then Bang! I discovered Jaclyn Hill a beauty blogger,” she recalled.

Her interest grew further when she had her first job at the Urban Outfitters. She was placed in the shoes, accessories and the beauty department where she learned so much about the products. “I started to fall in love with makeup products and how it made people look and feel. Also, I love how it made me feel so I decided I wanted to learn more and start my own Youtube videos,” Jenae tells us.

The creative makeup artist shares that she can’t live without is her highlighters. Whenever she travels she always takes it with her along with her makeup brushes, beauty blender, mascara, brows products, concealer, lip gloss, lipstick and other items. Though she had made many bold decisions in life, she tells us that the most dramatic thing she’s done to change up her look was dyeing her hair red.

Also, she jokes about how pointy her chin is and how she might cut someone with it, which is one of the things she would change about herself if she could. Her guilty pleasures include chocolate chip cookies, chocolate ice cream, chocolate-covered strawberries, and basically anything chocolate.

Furthermore, when she finally decided to pursue a career out of it, she took her first major steps back in September 2012 as she was getting more familiar with the beauty products.

The talented stylist revealed that there are several things she enjoys the most about fashion and makeup, but the one thing she likes about it, is that there aren’t any rules to fashion or makeup. “You do what you want and you just have the space to be creative, with no limits,” she said.

Aside from her love for her craft, the love and support of her family has definitely motivated her to work even harder as a beauty guru. “They are always texting, calling and telling me how good of a job I’m doing and how proud they are and to keep up the good work. There’s nothing like having people you love behind you,” she expressed.

Also, the support that she has been getting from her amazing subscribers pushed her to continue with her passion. “They always leave comments under my videos or my IG saying so much positive words, it is really an amazing feeling,” she excitedly shared with us.

Moreover, she disclosed that she adores watching Jaclyn Hill, Manny Mua, Desi Perkins, Alissa Ashley, and a lot of other beauty bloggers. She finds all their works very inspiring. “I enjoy watching them grow and do different videos because it gives me hope”, she honestly shared.

A lot has happened since she started with her career. Now, the humble yet artistic high school student has her own YouTube channel and the number of people supporting her channel is quite overwhelming. She got a number of good feedback and, now she has brands reaching out to her to send a sample of their products. She finds it rather amazing how many people have appreciated her work, and this has driven her to give even more of herself to it. One of the most exciting acknowledgment, she has received, according to Jenae is when she was featured in Kylie Jenner’s cosmetics IG page wearing her new matte lip in “True Brown”.

This month’s beauty guru proves to us, yet again, that when you love what you do, everything will work out on its own.

She also shares that her boyfriend Gerel was one of the people that pushed her to pursue her makeup career and start a YouTube channel. “We went half-and-half on my canon camera for my videos, and then when I started to get into my makeup and post a lot. He also bought me the Sony a5100 camera for Christmas. This camera is the top A1 camera that every beauty bloggers use to take photos of their makeup and it comes out gorgeous. He also helped me build my vanity dresser from scratch. He even tells me ideas for my future videos. Anytime I need help he’s there within seconds and for that I thank him! Nowadays, it’s hard to find someone especially in my generation to be positive for you and always push your dreams,” the beauty expert told us happily.

Throughout her experiences, she bared that the most valuable lesson she has learned from being in the industry is that there are thousands of people out there doing the same thing. The industry is very competitive so you have to try to make it your own and be different.

Furthermore, she recommends to other bloggers like her to continuously ask themselves “What makes you stand out? What makes your different from everyone else?” “Knowing this puts you in the right direction in your work. You have to post every day and be consistent. Always believe in yourself. You also must be confident if you want to do something in life. You have to do it yourself because no one is going to just hand it over to you. And most importantly, the key to success is working hard and having fun doing it,” she adds.

In the future, she plans to finish cosmetology school. She graduates this summer and she plans to be an aesthetician in a spot in the city and keep pushing her YouTube channel. She considers it her main priority to post more videos for her avid fans.
