Tough twelve interview with promising blogger Racheal Rauch

1. Tell us your name and something about yourself.

My name is Racheal Rauch, – not ‘Raunch’, just Rauch. I’m a bubbly, enthusiastic and friendly individual. I talk heaps and I have an opinion on everything. I love travelling and learning new things and I actually enjoyed Uni and loved my thesis on Arthurian film. I also like British accents, manners and daytime soaps. I can’t cook and unfortunately my chocolate addiction is my fatal flaw. I enjoy deep and meaningful conversations one minute and then turning around and shrugging it all off and going dancing the next! For some reason I can’t handle people sniffing – tissues were invented for a reason people! Weirdly enough I think I was born in the wrong century? Reason being is that I like poems and Shakespeare, and musicals in lovely posh type buildings. Oh, and last but not least – Australia rocks my socks and floats my boat!

2. Give us a brief description of what your blog is all about and tell us what makes your blog unique from other blogs out there.

My blog is called ‘The Secret Diary of A Girl Called Racheal’ (http://rauch.blog.com/) and it’s mainly film/tv reviews and social commentary. My blog is all about my opinion and is written in the way I talk, I think my bubbly and outgoing personality comes across in my blog. Much of what I write I have already said to someone. I started my blog because I like writing and having an opinion, I find it flattering that other people regularly read it, compliment it, spread the word and say how much they enjoy reading what I have to say! Finally, it’s no longer just my mother and I who read my blog! LOL

3. Which is worse, failing or never trying?

Never trying. If you fail, the only consolation you can really have is that at least you gave it a crack. You don’t have to wonder ‘what if’.

4. Is there an idea or subject that you feel obsessed by or curious about at the moment?

I love motion pictures. I like finding a brilliant one that takes me on a journey out of my own little world. If it’s a good one, I imagine myself being in that world and create a whole new story using the film’s world as a basis. You could also say that I’m a little obsessed with ‘Arthuriana’. I don’t have collectables nor do I dress up as a knight or a fair maiden but I would very much like to leave our world behind for a bit to try out theirs!

5. What has been you biggest challenge so far?

My Arthurian thesis. I took a gender approach to it, having never written about Gender before. I also worked 3 jobs whilst doing full time uni – much to the horror of my Supervisor! Plus half the time I didn’t understand what I was reading and it took me a while to get my head around it.

6. When is it OK to lie?

The answer should be never. But I tend to think it’s ok if it avoids upsetting and unnecessary drama for all involved.

7. If you are given a chance to travel back in the past just for one day, where would you go and what would you change?

Camelot. I’d plonk myself in Guinevere’s spot and do a better job of juggling Arthur and Lancelot! I’d also avoid that whole getting ‘burned at the stake’ business. I’d also travel back in time to Jane Austen’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’ or Margaret Mitchell’s ‘Gone With the Wind’. In both cases, I’d get it right the first time round with Mr. Darcy and Rhett Butler.

8. If you were an animal, a can of soup or some other random object, which one would you be and why? Pick an answer for each category and elaborate on your answer.

If I was an animal I’d be a ‘killer Whale’ (Orca) because it’s a weapon in the ocean but it’s also pretty and elegant. If I was a soup I’d be a ‘vegetable soup’ because it gives all the goodness in one hit. And if I was a random object I’d be a ‘Post Office box’ because it is timeless and no one can hate on a PO Box!

9. If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why? Pick one man, and one woman.

If I was to pick a man I’d pick King Arthur because he’s one of the greatest leaders the world has ever seen. I want to meet him so I can see for myself if history was right about him. And if I was to pick a woman I’d pick Mother Theresa because I’m just in awe of her and I want feel God’s presence through her.

10. What is the craziest thing you would do for love or money?

It just depends how desperately I wanted the boy or the cash!

11. What was your most embarrassing moment ever?

Walking with my dress tucked into my undies in front of my boss and male colleagues! And I didn’t even have nice undies on.

12. What is one thing you could tell us about yourself that others would be shocked to know?

I scheme and manipulate! I pretend to not know what the person really meant or I’d pretend to be confused – It’s basically pulling off the little lost blonde act. But really I know exactly what’s going on and I’ve got you right where I want you!
