Patrick Swayze dies at 57
Patrick Swayze, best known for starring in the smash hit films “Dirty Dancing” and “Ghost,” has just died of pancreatic cancer. He was originally diagnosed with cancer back in January 2008.
“Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months,” his publicist, Annett Wolf, said in a statement.
His last television interview was back in December 2008 with Barbara Walters. Walters expressed her condolences to Patrick’s family as she said “My heart goes out to his wonderful Lisa, his wife and soul mate for 34 years.”
When Patrick learned that he was suffering from pancreatic cancer back in March 2008, he still kept working regardless of the diagnosis. He even shot the A&E drama “The Beast,” as well as put together a memoir with his beloved wife. The show garnered a decent 1.3 million viewers when the 13 episodes ran back in 2009, but was not renewed for a second season.
Swayze initially reached superstar status starring as the hunky dance instructor Johnny Castle in 1987’s “Dirty Dancing” opposite Jennifer Gray. He gained a large fan base for his role and even received a Golden Globe nomination.
He also earned another nomination for his role in the 1990 smash hit “Ghost,” in which he starred alongside Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. It was then that he was named by People magazine as the “Sexiest Man Alive” back in 1991.
A number of celebrities have used Twitter to express their condolences towards Patrick’s family, and the movie “Dirty Dancing” was even the top trending topic for the past couple of days along with Patrick’s other films.
I think it goes without saying that Patrick, you will be sorely missed.
