A new reality show is about to hit Australia- and it’s going to be good! This reality TV show originated in the UK but has now come to Australia and it will be narrated by none other than Russell Crowe. The Secret Millionaire involves millionaires going incognito as they attempt to leave their mark on the world- they agree to give away hundred of thousands of THEIR OWN MONEY in order to help those in need. The Secret millionaires travel to unknown disadvantaged communities throughout Australia, their identity remains unknown until the end of the show when they reveal themselves as The Secret Millionaire.
Season one aired on the nine network in 2009 and conistsed of five episodes. The featured millionaires were Albert Bertini (of property development firm Trivest), Derek Leddie (founder of market research firm The Leading Edge), Peter Bond (managing director of Linc Energy), Naomi Simson (founder & CEO of Red Balloon), and Danny Wallis (founder of DWS Advanced Business Solutions). Unfortunately a sixth episode was scheduled but was cancelled after financial issues were faced by the benefactor. These generous millionaires gave away more than $750 000 to individuals and community groups to help them make their dreams come true.
The third episode to the second season airs in the Monday the 6th of September and features Sean Ashby the founder of men’s clothing line; AussieBum. The previous two episodes saw me in tears as I watched Carly Crutchfield (the founder and CEO of CCorp) and Karl Redenbach (founder of nSynergy) give away $226 000 and a job offer to breast cancer survivors, children with chronic health problems, community footy clubs, homeless shelters, blind youth and more.
I think it’s so nice to see these caring millionaires have a heart as they try to change peoples lives for the better. I loved listening to Carly’s story, I was amazed how a young girl could leave school in year nine, be broke at age 18 but then end up to be a millionaire in her early 20′s. It’s great to see people like this turning their lives around and then helping others to do the same. I think the show teaches us a great lesson for everyone to learn, no matter what happens in life you can overcome the hurdles you are presented with. Definitely a must see TV, it gives us a break from the usual tasteless and brainless shows floating around without a purpose.
