Trends that are here to stay!

There are a handful of things I’m good at. These include laughing at inappropriate moments, singing along to the radio in the car and putting together a good outfit. I love clothes and fashion. Hence the fashion writing.

I love following fashion ‘trends’ but I also like to stick to my own personal style. Here are a handful of ‘trends’ at the moment that I think will stick around for a while: they’re easy to pull off without breaking the bank, and no matter what size or shape you are!

Sequins. They’re back. In a BIG way. Consider sequins as the Madonna of the clothing world. They’ve always been around, they have their ups and downs, and at the moment, they are taking over the (fashion) world! If you’re a fashion junky like me, investing in a gold or black sequined blazor jacket is a MUST for your wardrobe. Otherwise, dim it down with sequinned tees, cuffs, even sequinned shorts.

Midriff. I never thought I’d see this little trend pop up again since the beloved ’80s. However, as soon as it did, I was the first person running around like a chook without it’s head trying to find the perfect midriff for my body type. If you’re a bit nervous about venturing into stomach-showing territory, there are plenty of midriff-tees available that sit just below the bellybutton and still look flattering. If you’re on a budget, cut up your old tees! Anyone who invests in a sequinned midriff gets extra points…

Chunky necklaces. These are those embellished ones with beads and chains and ribbon that start as a chocker and sit almost like a baby-bib on your neck. Mimco sells them for $200. Diva sells them for around $30. Either way, they add some serious bling to your LBD (little black dress for the fashion-illiterate).

Denim Cut-Offs. These denim shorts are perfect for hot days like today. I’m still looking for my dream pair-baggy, ripped and rugged. There are just too many styles to choose from! Studded denim is big at the moment, as is ripped, however a nice pair of plain denim shorts will never go out of fashion. You can always cut up your dads jeans, just make sure he isn’t planning to wear them again…
