Mallory Roughley (nickname Mal) is currently 20 years old and has always had a strong love for fashion and style. “I’ve always been interested in style and makeup ever since I was a little girl,” she says, going on to add that “I started watching YouTube videos of all these amazing girls who were so good at makeup. I then started to play around with it myself and ended up being pretty good!”.

Mal has been blogging since January, and blogging is currently her part-time work while she dedicates the rest of her time to managing a restaurant in the city of Victoria in British Columbia (Victoria is located on an island just off the coast of Canada). She does, however, have plans to increase her blogging and media work in the future, saying that “in the next few years I plan to make blogging and YouTube my full-time job.”

When asked what she likes most about her fashion work, she says that she enjoys the freedom of it. She explained that she likes “being able to style things differently than someone else might,” adding on that she also loves “experimenting with pieces outside my comfort zone, that way I get to find things I love that I might not have gone for normally.”

For inspiration of her own, Mallory gives credit to her incredibly supportive family, particularly her mother, sister, and grandmother. “I would say the ladies in my life are my inspirations,” she tells us, adding that she’s always looked up to her sister and that her mother has always been supportive of her doing what she loves, while her grandmother taught her the importance of having a positive attitude regardless of the circumstances.

She also receives excellent support from her boyfriend Erik, a photographer who helps her with some of her filmings; Mal says that Erik inspires her every single day, explaining that “he was diagnosed with testicular cancer last December and underwent chemotherapy and radiation. He’s only 21, so it was a lot to take on at his age, but he’s now cancer-free and is living his life to the fullest.”

Mal also has admirable and inspiring plans for the future. “One of my goals is to be able to make a career out of YouTube and as an influencer on Instagram,” she says of her career plans.“The other goal” she goes on,“is to be a voice for body positivity and help other girls and boys be confident and happy in their own skin. I would be so thrilled to know I can make a difference in how someone views themselves. I hope that I can use my platform and my voice to make a change.”

In an industry where so many people are focused on merely making money, this sort of positive and kind-hearted outlook is genuinely inspiring and heartwarming.

3. What is in your makeup bag when you travel? I usually pack my everyday makeup items and the essentials like toothbrush toothpaste etc.
4. What is the one “flaw” you wouldn’t change about yourself? The freckles on my nose
5. Your best guilty pleasure… Possibly chocolate.
