The Role of Seaweed in Losing Weight

The latest in weight loss that scientists have found is seaweed. This is a component that has been used as a flavoring agent in many soups and salads made in Asian cuisine. Research in Japan has shown that seaweed contains a compound called fucoxanthin. This compound helps in weight loss by reducing the reducing the capability of the body in accumulating fat.

A study showed that there was a 5 percent to 10 percent reduction in test animals. This study that was presented in the 232nd meeting of the American Chemical Society shows that the compound may be especially beneficial in attacking fat accumulated around the abdomen. It is therefore a boon for those who want to reduce their belly fat.

Independently, researchers at Newcastle University conducted a study in which they concluded that alginate found in sea kelp reduces the uptake of fat by more than 75 percent.

Seaweed has been known to promote long and healthy life in Japan for years. Not only are they known to reduce weight but to also help in removing toxins from the body, reducing blood pressure and cholesterol too. The marine plant also builds stronger bones and regulates thyroid imbalances too.

There are many different types of seaweed. Some of these include dulse, nori, arame, kombu and wakame. Dulse is found in Northern Europe and is high in Vitamin B, C, A and E along with iodine, calcium, magnesium and fiber. Nori is additionally rich in phosphorus, potassium, copper, zinc and porphyran.

There is news that an anti-obesity pill is being created in order to help reduce obesity in various countries. However, it is expected that it will take a few years before this can happen.
