10. The shining

With his uncanny acting ability, playing a terrifying psycho is no doubt a piece of cake for Mr Jack Nicholson. That’s why he made such a really creepy murderous husband in “The Shining.” Now there were definitely a lot of scary scenes in the film, but I’m sure you’ll all agree that the most terrifying scene in the horror flick has got to be the scene where the maniacal Jack Nicholson violently breaks down the door with an axe and then shouting at the top of his lungs: “HERE’S JOHNNY!”

WTF?? I think Jackie needs to take a chill pill!

9. Salems lot

This movie definitely has some of the scariest looking vampires you’ve ever seen. But the scene that freaked most of us out was the scene where the creepy vampirish looking kid was seen floating outside of a bedroom window, and get this – he was smiling, scraping at the glass and ASKING TO COME IN!

Well, since you asked nicely …

8. Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho

We all know that Psycho is an all time horror classic. And what makes it such a classic was definitely the terrifying shower murder scene of Janet Leigh. The murder scene took place in the first third of the film (which is strange) where an evil figure tore open the curtain barrier, and attacked Janet with a butcher knife with such brutality! She was also murdered to the sound of screeching violins!

Brrr …. NASTY ….

7. The Sixth Sense

This movie was another horror classic – I couldn’t even sleep with the lights out after watching this eerie horror flick when it first came out. The scariest scene for me was when Haley Joel Osment hid in his small, red tent he liked to call his ’sanctuary’ from the ghosts. Suddenly a shadow began to creep slowly across the wall – and with the blink of an eye a freaky ghost of a pale young girl was in the tent with him! *gulp* But wait there’s more – she then vomits white gooey crap from out of nowhere!

Maybe he should have told her “Ooohh behave baby!”

6. Session 9

hauntedsession9

This film has got to be one of the creepiest movies in horror history. The plot of the movie revolves around Stephen Gevedon and the psychotherapy session audio-tapes – labelled Session 1 to Session 9 he accidentally found. These are recorded interviews with a multiple-personality female patient named Mary Hobbes. One of her personalities was the childlike “Princess,” another one was the protector named “Billy” and the most evil of all her personalities was later revealed to be “Simon.” The most chilling moment in the film was the voice-over ending, a recording of Session 9 – “Simon” as he admitted to the psychotherapist that Mary had murdered her family and then said: “I live in the weak and the wounded, Doc,” in the most chilling voice imaginable. Oh and by the way, when that last voice-over ending was heard, everyone around Stephen Gevedon was already dead!

Can you say PSYCHO??

5. Amityville horror (1978)

Haunted Houses are one of the most common storylines in a typical horror movie, but what sets this movie apart is that it’s supposedly based on a true story! Now the scene that scared the heeby jeebies out of me was when the priest went into the house to drive the demon away, and suddenly a thunderous voice yells “GET OUT!” in the most chilling manner imaginable!

Umm … I think that’s a sign to exit mister!

4. The Others

This movie was definitely creepy with a capital “C,” but the scene that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up was when Nicole Kidman was met face to face by a dilapidated old hag with a freaky veil over her head and who had the VOICE OF A LITTLE GIRL. Nicole shockingly said “What have you done with my daughter??” and the old creepy hag replied “Are you mad? I am your daughter” causing Nicole to attack the old hag and strangulate her whilst shouting “You’re not my daughter!”

Job well done Nicole! If that old witch said “I am your daughter” to me, I would’ve instantly given her a head kick and shouted “daughter this you freaky old hag!” That’ll teach her to scare people.

3. Exorcism of Emily Rose

Any movie with exorcism as a plot is freaky as hell – but this movie is especially scary though since it was actually based in real life! Now there are hundreds of bloodcurdling scenes in the horror flick, but one scene that really stood out for me was when Emily Rose and her friend fell asleep … And when the friend woke up guess what he saw? Oh nothing much … only that he was shocked to wake up to a seemingly frozen Emily Rose eerily staring at him whilst locked in a double-jointed and creepy contortionist position!

Good grief! I think she might’ve taken the term “love at first sight” the wrong way!

2. The Exorcist

It’s hard to pick a scene from the Exorcist series because well – every Exorcist movie was a freakin’ nut job! You just can’t imagine sleeping with the lights off after watching an exorcist movie. One scene that really did stand out for me though was the terrifying upside-down SPIDER-WALK down the stairs!

WTF was that?? No, seriously, WTF??

1. When a stranger calls 1979

when20a20stranger20calls

This movie was one of the greatest horror movies ever created. What’s extremely creepy about this flick is the voice of the lead psycho; it’s a voice that can make any grown man pee in his pants! The most chilling scene in the movie was actually the initial scene. The baby-sitter (Carol Kane) was going through her usual duties as a baby-sitter when she suddenly started receiving phone calls from an unknown, madcap freakazoid saying “Why haven’t you checked the children?” in the most chilling and hair raising voice imaginable. And here’s the clincher: so she ends up calling the police to track down the weirdo’s whereabouts and guess what? Here’s the police’s unforgettable warning: “We’ve traced the call … it’s coming from INSIDE the house!”

Well a merry Christmas to you too Mr policeman!

I personally think that the scene from the movie “the eye” with Jessica Alba where the kid was showing up at every level of the elevator should’ve been on this list. Oh and with regards to the comment above, I dont think you get this list at all. Its actually “top 10 horror SCENES” not “Top 10 horror MOVIES.” And FYI those movies you just mentioned are crap with a capital C! Its just your typical monster movies – BORINGG!!
