Fashionista of the Month – December 2012

It is conceivable that Kerleen could have been entered into two categories this month – Fashionista of the Month and Musician of the Month! Possessing incredible talent in both fields, Kerleen is also gripped by a fierce passion for both music and the beauty industry.  “Fashion/makeup were a result of my love for music… fashion makes music look better and music makes fashion sound better.”

Now December 2012’s, StarCentral Magazine’s Fashionista of the Month, Kerleen began the partnership of music and fashion in 2006 when she and her-then boyfriend (now husband) began to think about pursuing a career in the entertainment industry together.  “I had booked several photo shoots around that time and I realized that I loved that component of music. The fashion and the makeup gave my music a personality.” That melding of her two passions has brought Kerleen to a point where in August this year, she was able to release her EP of original songs titled: ‘Wear Love…Wild!’ which is available for download on www.kerleen.bandcamp.com.  The album is a mixture of pop, reggae, R&B, jazz, dubstep and hip-hop.  It is also a vehicle where she can share her love for her number one inspiration, Jesus Christ.  Her songs also feature heavily as background music for her fashion/makeup videos on her YouTube channel.

As for being a Fashionista, the 26-year old loves the “…versatility that style/fashion gives a person…I am not restricted to a “look” or a “style”, I can express myself freely each day; that’s the best part. I also love that fashion can lift my spirits…” Her individuality and charisma has been instrumental to her success and she finds herself amazed that “…I’ve inspired someone to build a relationship with God or to love themselves enough to try a new fashion trend… those things to me will always be the most memorable…”

But Kerleen has learned definitively that without hard work, there is no success, and that “…you have to do what you LOVE.”  For only with that love and total commitment (“…it takes years of training, hard work, and dedication to become a professional…) can one expect success.  She has also learned the importance of defining where her priorities lie.  “You have to have a grasp on what’s most important in your life. For me that is God, my family, my career and then everything else…”

Inspired by the love and dedication of her husband, as well as the early example of her parents (“…I watched my mom and dad work tirelessly when I was a child and it has made me the hard worker that I am today…), Kerleen hopes to create a “brand” one day.  One that includes all her passions – “music, fashion, people” – and would “…positively influence women of all ages. I would like to model what it is to be a hard working woman in this day and age without compromising your values.”  Well, Kerleen, it seems that you have everything at your fingertips to make those dreams come true.
