Actor of the Month for June 2013!

For StarCentral Magazine’s Actor of the Month for June 2013, Tamaha Carroll, being able to run wild with his imagination is one of his favourite things about being an actor.  His enjoyment of his career has meant that he has never ever seen it as ‘work’ and more of a hobby.  Born in New Zealand, the 21-year old (now represented by Gilchrist Management) has found that since being in the entertainment industry he has learned that he can be capable of anything as long as he has the commitment and the right attitude.

What do you enjoy most about performing?

Not only do I enjoy the people I meet and the places us actors are privileged to go to, I get a thrill out of stepping into the life of another character for the day while on set.

When did you first perform and where?

The first film set I ever worked on was a feature film called ‘Fatal Honeymoon’ where I played a background extra.

My first paid speaking role was on a web series called ‘Project Schoolies’ playing the support role of ‘Zak’, This was shot on the Gold Coast (Queensland, Australia), a teen drama that follows a group of school leavers as they celebrate the end of their exams in Surfers Paradise (also in Queensland, Australia).

Do you have a specific inspiration to keep performing? (a person, an event etc)

I have always wanted to give acting a try from a very young age. I was born in a small town called Kaiapoi in Christchurch, New Zealand, so the film industry was a lot smaller back home. Now with living on the Gold Coast I feel as if the world is one’s oyster, and never looked back. My friends/family are very supportive with my choice of ‘hobby’ and I am really thankful for this! So yes they would have to be the ones who keep me driven.

What was your most memorable performance?

Each set I have been on there is always something to make it memorable, from small mishaps to major setbacks, working with well-known actors/actresses.  But the foremost memories are the friendships I have made, this is something no one can erase.

What are your future plans for your career?  (Inside the performing industry or out of it).

I plan to carry on Acting as it is something I immensely enjoy, I have never seen it as ‘work’ just more of a hobby of mine, so keep an eye out for me because I do not turn down any opportunities that are in my path!  Outside of the industry I would love to travel some more, and see more of this incredible planet we live on.

Is your family supportive of your career?

Yes, My family are very supportive, I am the youngest of 6 so the support means so much to me, knowing my parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles & cousins all support me in one way or another, whether it’s with constructive criticism or heart felt praise, I know that they have my best interest at heart.
