1. Alissa and Lyz (US)

Alissa Liebler (15) and Lyz Mortati (15) have been best friends for a number of years now so it is no surprise that they are connected by their mutual love for singing country music and especially their mutual admiration of Taylor Swift. They are both self-taught musicians and they both play a variety of instruments including guitar, piano, and banjo. Ever since they found out that their voices complimented each other, they began to harmonize down the school hallways to some of their favourite songs. After creating their own YouTube channel and recording their first song, they were suddenly requested by a number of people to sing at various gigs, charity events, and school programs. Currently, they have around 8,000 views on their biggest viral hit “Marry You” by Bruno Mars, 24,000 total video views, 200 subscribers on their YouTube channel and over 200 likes on the Alissa & Lyz Facebook page. Both girls have now become songwriters and they are grateful for the opportunity to do what they love. They would also like to thank anyone who has ever listened to their music or supported them in what they do.

2. The GiGi Sisters (Canada)

Ever since they were young Alexandra (20), Stefanie (18), and Katharine Petkovski (15) have been creating music, but this past spring they took their passion for singing, songwriting, and performing and created The GiGi Sisters. Remaining true to their roots, these Mississauga ON sisters perfectly blend the classical training of their youth with the indie of their hometown and the pop of today creating a unique sound that is evident in both the girls’ original material and cover songs. In just a few months, The GiGi Sisters have exploded into the pop scene in Canada thereby earning a nomination for StarCentral Magazine’s Group/Duo of the Month earlier this year. Since then they have also appeared on several television interviews on the Rogers Television Network and have also been featured on several radio stations around Eastern Canada. Recently The GiGi Sisters made the folk charts in Calgary with their sound defining single ‘When We are Young’ and they have also performed at several concerts and festivals around Eastern Canada.

Most recently they entered a national singing competition called “Open Mic UK” and they managed to reach the semi finals even though over 15,000 people applied. 4. Dolls (US)

The Dolls is a fresh acapella group who hails from Philadelphia, PA. Members Mary Anne Cleary, AJ Luca, Ariel Kerber, and Megan Wellman actually met and formed the group back in 2008 when they were still students at The University of the Arts. Today, the girls are busy performing and making waves across the internet with their music. The Dolls have been featured on AOL.com, RyanSeacrest.com, The Huffington Post, and on news stations across the globe for some of their unique YouTube videos. So what makes them unique? Their creative arrangements have a rich and full sound that surprisingly comes from only four voices. Their personality and love for what they do is contagious, and makes their audience feel as if they are part of the music. What makes them so unusual, however, is the fact that they are known to incorporate unconventional percussion “instruments” into their arrangements (i.e. utensils, plastic drawers, even a cheese grater!). The Dolls relish every opportunity to make music together and they do it with an invigorating flair that is truly one of a kind.
